MapSports Charlie Staines has capped a memorable couple of weeks with the announcement he has signed with the Wests Tigers for the 2023 season. Staines who scored a try in the Penrith Panthers victory over the Parramatta Eels in the 2022 NRL Grand final a fortnight ago and also became a proud first time father.
In discussing his move to the Tigers Staines said, “It’s been a whirlwind couple of weeks to be honest. Firstly to win a premiership with a lot of guys who I came through the Panthers system with and then to be able to be there for the birth of my first child was something I’ll never forget.” (Staines pulled out of the Samoan Squad for the World Cup).
“I would like to thank everyone at the Panthers for their guidance and support over the past 7 years and I sincerely wish them the very best for the future. I’ve made a lot of good friends there, but for me to continue to develop I need to reset and go again. After visiting with the Tigers and seeing their facilities, looking at some of their signings and looking at what is coming through their system, it has some similarities to Penrith a number of years ago. There seems to be a real focus on building a strong balanced squad and I am excited to be part of that.” Staines will join the group on Nov 14 for preseason training.
